The house is officially half way! We couldn't be more excited. Lately, we have been experiencing some issues with the prices of materials and labor increasing well above our allowance. So one might ask, "how do you continue building through this?" Trust me, it's super hard to not get frustrated, but just because you have a contractor chosen on paper does not mean you have to stick with it! Our masonry had to get rebidded because the original guy lost all his help and couldn't complete it anymore so our builder got a new quote and it was almost DOUBLE the amount of the original quote... It's safe to say we will continue to look until we find a more ethical route.
It is very easy to get down on yourself, especially when you try to talk with others that aren't building. Trust me, you are not alone! I reached out to some other friends on IG that are also building and they too are in this situation. What I highly suggest is sitting down with your GC and figure out where things are at and go over expectations. When we sat down, we were able to discuss future cost increases, what we can do to prevent them, and how they will be taken care of.
